Italian Authorities Seize Assets From Convicted Mobster Who Headed Murder Squad

Imprisoned mobster Giuseppe Setola once headed a hit squad for the Casalesi clan from the Camorra or Neapolitan Mafia, and now after losing his liberty the degenerate killer has lost his wealth as reported by ANSA:  “flats, villas, companies and bank accounts were part of the assets seized or frozen from Giuseppe Setola, serving multiple life terms for leading a Casalesi execution team that between May 2 and December 12 2008 murdered 18 people, including six West African immigrants.”

Mob Boss Was A Mole Man

Apparently Michele Zagaria really dug — pun intended — his underground lairs.

Zagaria headed the powerful Casalesi clan from the Camorra or Neapolitan Mafia, and spent sixteen years on the lam until December 2011 when police found him living in an underground bunker in his home town of Casapesenna near Naples.

And now Italian police have uncovered a second hole into which the mob boss sometimes would descend to hide from the world as reported by Chris Pleasance for the Daily Mail:  “the entrance to the complex is hidden behind a fake wall, which is moved using an electric mechanism,” and “that then leads to a hydraulic life which lowers down into the secret basement” which “was fitted out with a bedroom, a bathroom, its own ventilation system, and state-of-the-art CCTV cameras.”

The Camorra runs the streets of impoverished Naples and is involved in everything from the vice rackets such as drugs and prostitution to the corruption of legitimate industries including waste and construction, and its dirty operations were exposed to the world by Roberto Saviano in his 2006 international bestseller Gomorrah which subsequently was adapted into a film by director Matteo Garrone.

The contents of Zagaria’s bunker in which he was found included a copy of Gomorrah.

Italian Police: Camorra Devised Scheme For Companies To Avoid Taxes

The Casalesi clan from the Camorra or Neapolitan Mafia allegedly provided fake invoices from dummy companies to active businesses which, in turn, fraudulently used them to reduce their tax liabilities by offsetting real income with the phony expenses as reported by Umberto Bacchi for the International Business Times.  Italian police arrested six people for their suspected roles in the tax scam including alleged ringleader Giovanni Potenza, and seized assets worth 11 million euros or $15 million.

Mobster’s Doctor Gets Two Years

The Italian doctor who traveled to Innsbruck, Austria in 2009 to treat then-fugitive Michele Zagaria has been sentenced “to two years in jail for aiding and abetting his patient” as reported by ANSA.

Zagaria headed the powerful Casalesi clan from the Camorra or Neapolitan Mafia, and spent sixteen years on the lam until December 2011 when police found him living in an underground bunker in his home town of Casapesenna near Naples.

Suspected Camorristi Charged With Murdering Fellow Mobster Who Wanted Out

Four suspected mobsters from the Camorra or Neapolitan Mafia have been charged for their alleged roles in the 1993 slaying of a fellow cohort who wanted out of the stinkin’ mob as reported by ANSA:  “Casalesi underboss Francesco Bidognetti, nicknamed ‘Midnight Fatty’ in local dialect, ordered the killing of his underling to remind the rest of the Bidognetti clan that membership was for life, investigators said.”

Meanwhile, Salvatore Baldassarre has been sentenced to life after his murder conviction for pumping fourteen bullets into an innocent civilian whom the Camorra mobster mistakenly believed was from a rival clan during a turf war for control over the drug trade on the Naples streets as reported by ANSA:  “police said Baldassare was caught on a wiretap telling a fellow member of his clan ‘when I start shooting, I never stop.'”

Suspected Camorristi Hit With Gun Charges

Apparently mobsters like their guns.

Italian police have charged seven suspected members from the Casalesi clan of the Camorra or Neapolitan Mafia on weapons charges as reported by ANSA:  “guns involved included Kalashnikov assault rifles, Uzi machine guns, pistols and numerous other weapons where the serial numbers had been filed off to make ownership impossible to trace.”

Maybe the breast-beating teeth-gnashing drama queen Piers Morgan should start using his CNN platform to rail against the gun culture that pervades organized crime, and he could invite a few mobsters or narcos on his show to explain why they really need machine guns and assault rifles.

From Casalesi Boss To Mafia Pentito

Carmine Schiavone once ran the Casalesi clan from the Camorra or Neapolitan Mafia until flipping to become a government witness, and two decades later he’s now “talking about that dangerous decision and his extraordinary life” as reported by Alan Johnston for BBC News:

He is vague about how many murders he might have ordered.  “Fifty-two… 53? I killed seven, eight, 10, 20… I don’t remember. My cousin handled the armed wing, I did the business side. And every once in a while we’d say, ‘One day we’ll pay for this.'”

One of the Casalesi rackets was waste dumping, and apparently Schiavone’s concern over the environmental damage motivated his decision to flip against the clan.
